N scale model railroading structures
The photo's shown below are of our current layout, the "Sierra, Liberty & Boston." It is a fictional road name, but modeled loosely after the Boston & Albany, and the New Haven lines. The time era is the 1930's, and we have tried to include all the proper details. Of course, as with most home layouts, selective compression is a must. But through all of the 'compression', we feel we are creating a true feel of railroading in Boston at the said time line. So welcome to the first 'public' pictures of the "Sierra, Liberty & Boston".
Here are some photo's of a few buildings that are on our layout. The buildings are kitbashed productions, or of our own design loosely based on prototype. Please drop us a line if you have any questions, comments, or just want to let us know what you think!
This is Boston's Washington Street, once known as 'Newspaper Row'. Although drastically compressed, we managed to squeeze three of Boston's premiere newspaper offices onto the block, the Globe, the Investigator and the Herald.
Two of the three buildings shown are modified kits. We have added two floors to each, and added new chimneys and vent pipes. The back walls are completely different than those that came with the kits. The middle building is one of the many buildings that we designed and fabricated using old photographs as reference, and houses the "Boston Investigator", a now defunct tabloid.

With the exception of the white switch tower (located at left) all the buildings in this photo were scratch built. Windows, figures, and vehicles are by others. The curved red brick building and the adjacent yellow brick building (center rear), should be a familiar sight for anyone who has been over the Summer St. Bridge. (The bridge itself however, won't be. The bridge in the photo is actually located on Northern Ave.!) Extensive research went into reconstructing this part of Boston, and as you may have noticed, we deleted Fort Point Channel (to the dismay of my partner) and stuck the Dover St. Yard in it's place.Like I said, selective compression! But, we think its a reasonably good 'fake'.
